Badane Gojju/Spicy Brinjal Masala

Always I love to eat jowar roti/ sorghum bread with a curry out of brinjal. This time I had a new recipe in hand and hence decided to try that. Recipe I got from Nalini Somayaji was simply awesome. The speciality is that inspite of not using Onion and garlic in this masala, it turned out well. It is comparitively little spicy but worth it as the jowar roti tastes bland without any good spicy curry or chutney to accompany. Here I share the recipe of Badane Gojju/Spicy Brinjal Masala.

Ingredients:
Brinjal-1 diced into cubes
Green chillies-2 slit lengthwise
Tamarind- small gooseberry shaped
Sambar masala-2 tbsp.
Turmeric powder-½ tsp.
Water as required( I used around 1-1 ½cup)
Jaggery powder-1 tsp.
Curry leaves-1 sprig
Oil-2 tbsp.
Salt to taste

Recipe:
  1. In a pan add oil and when hot add brinjal cubes and saute for some time.
  2. As they get well sauteed, add turmeric powder, slit green chillies and mix well.
  3. Once the brinjal pieces get well coated and almost 50 percent cooked, add tamarind, jaggery powder and salt.
  4. Add water just enough to cook the brinjal well.
  5. Cook till they are well cooked.
  6. Now add sambar masala.
  7. Mix well, mash the brinjals a bit to get a mushy texture.
  8. Add curry leaves and simmer. Serve with any rotis like Jowar roti or any flatbread of your choice or even rice

Enjoy the dish! n don't forget Eat and Eat little MORE.. :)
